Vols Take Third In Big 12 Championship

OAK RIDGE, Tenn. -- Tennessee put its top two boats on the podium to clinch third place in the Big 12 Championship on Sunday at Melton Hill Lake.

Texas won the event, finishing first in all five Grand Finals. Oklahoma took second followed by Tennessee, Alabama, Kansas State, Kansas, Old Dominion and West Virginia. Texas advances to the NCAA Championship as the Big 12 automatic qualifier.
The Vols' Chandler Frumin, Pari Baker and Anneta Kyridou were named to the Big 12 All-Conference Rowing Team.
To begin the day Tennessee's 3V8+ took sixth place with a time of 7:02.614. Texas won the event, making it down the course in 6:34.936. Alabama, Kansas State, Oklahoma and Kansas rounded out the top five.
In the 2V4+ the Vols finished sixth, crossing the line four seconds ahead of West Virginia with a time of 7:42.377. Texas won the Grand Final with a time of 7:11.717. The rest of the finishes were Oklahoma in second (7:17.957), Alabama in third (7:28.153), Kansas State in fourth (7:34.188), and Kansas State in fifth (7:38.017).
In the 1V4+ Grand Final, Tennessee battled it out with Alabama and Oklahoma for second place, but in the end couldn't hang on, taking fourth with a time of 7:16.409. Texas won the event with a time of 7:06.038 followed by Alabama (7:13.496) and Oklahoma (7:14.829). Kansas and Kansas State took fifth and sixth place respectively.
The 2V8+ was the first Volunteer boat to find their way onto the podium, finishing third behind Texas and Oklahoma with a time of 6:34.947. Texas clinched first at 6:27.445, and Oklahoma posted a time of 6:32.663. Kansas State, Kansas and Alabama, in order, rounded out the competition.
In the final race of the day, the Tennessee 1V8+ took third, making it down the course in 6:31.990 to best Alabama, Kansas State and Kansas. Texas won the race with a time of 6:14.497 followed by Oklahoma at 6:26.997.

We appreciate the efforts of our seniors this year and look forward to welcoming a strong class of newcomers in the fall to take on another speed-seeking year," said Head Coach Lisa Glenn. "It's also exciting to see the conference getting faster overall. Credit to Texas for showing great speed and to Oklahoma and the others for stepping up their game."
This is the final event of Tennessee's 2016-17 season and the final collegiate race for its four seniors, Chandler Frumin, Natalie Tavares, Jesselyn Voysey and Taylor Upson.
