Vols Finish Day One At SEC T&F Championship

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee track and field completed day one of the SEC Indoor Track & Field Championships on Friday. The Vols notched 12 personal bests and nine top-10 performances at the Vanderbilt Multipurpose Complex. Day two of competition begins at 11 a.m. CT, with the live stream beginning at 1:55 p.m. CT on ="">SECN+.
Christian Coleman was the top qualifier in the 60m dash as he matched the facility record that he set earlier this year when he won the 60m competition at the Commodore Invitational. The junior was also the second-ranked qualifier in the 200m as he posted a time of 20.72. Mustaqeem Williams finished the 60m in 10th with a time of 6.72 and took 11th in the 200m with a time of 21.17.
Shania Collins finished with the fourth-fastest qualifying time in the 200m as she set a new personal best with a mark of 23.50. The junior also finished in 10th place for the 60m dash as she crossed the line in 7.36.
Sophomore Stamatia Scarvelis added four points for the women's team as she took fifth place in the shot put with a personal best of 16.37m (53-8.5). The mark moved her into a tie for fourth in the Tennessee all-time list with Alana Preston.
Darryl Sullivan scored two and a half points for the men's team as he tied for sixth place in the high jump. The freshman cleared 2.09m (6-10.25) on his first attempt. With his clearance, Sullivan scored the most high jump points for Tennessee at the SEC Indoor Championship since Brenard Wilson won the event in 2009.
After day one of competition, the Tennessee women sit in 11th with four points and the men are tied for ninth with two and a half points. Four of 17 events were completed on men's side and five of 17 are finished for the women. Georgia leads the men's competition with 30 points while Arkansas leads the women's meet with 48.5 points.
Sophomore Zach Long qualified for the finals of the mile as he was the fourth finisher in his heat and overall with a time of of 4:08.63. Freshman Adam Johnston set his mile personal best for the fifth consecutive race as he finished in 18th with a time of 4:18.10.
Freshman Domonique Turner set a personal best in the 60m hurdles as she finished in tenth place with a time of 8.34. Turner finished fourth in her heat and was .03 seconds from qualifying for the finals.
Matthew Zajac set a personal best in the weight throw with a toss of 19.76m (64-10) on his third attempt. Zajac finished in 12th and Seth Whitener took 13th with a mark of 19.50m (63-11.75).
Maya Neal scored the sixth-most Pentathlon points in Tennessee history as she tallied a total of 3618 during the five events on Friday. Neal set personal bests in the high jump (1.60m/5-3), the shot put (10.98m/36-0.25) and the 800m (2:34.14) as she claimed 13th place in the event.
