"This wasn't the tournament we had planned for and we didn't perform our best," said Head Coach Judi Pavon. "We struggled with our mid-iron and short-iron, which are normally strengths for us."
Freshman Micheala Williams, the 99th player in the country, and senior Hannah Pietila each carded a five-over 76 while senior Lucia Polo and No. 77-ranked Blakesly Warren shot 78 and 79, respectively, to round out scoring for Tennessee. No. 78 Anna Newell posted 80 on the day.
Senior Emmie Pietila, who competed as an individual, recorded a third round score of 77 to remain tied for 65th place.
Williams led UT, finishing tied for 45th place (+10, 223), with Newell following in a tie for 60th (+13, 226).
"My putting and short game was solid this week, especially out of bunkers" said Williams. "It was a really tough, old-style course so that was important."
Carding a final score of 227, Hannah Pietila moved up three spots into a tie for 62nd place and Warren tied for 67th with an overall score of 229. Polo posted an 18-over 231 to tie for 75th place.
No. 2 Southern California took home the team title with a one-stroke lead (+4, 856) over No. 14 Arizona State (+5, 857). No. 22 Duke remained in third place after shooting 285 in the final round for an overall score of 859 (+7). Leona Maguire, a junior at Duke and the No. 2-rated player in the nation, tied for first place with UNLV's Mackenzie Raim and Florida's No. 55 Taylor Tomlinson. All three players shot totals of 209 (-4).
"We are looking forward to evaluating each individual and getting some good practice in during the next week before we play at Auburn," added Pavon.
Tennessee continues its spring schedule on Feb. 26 in a head-to-head matchup with Auburn in Auburn, Ala.
