Grubbs, Treiber Lift Lady Vols Past Ole Miss

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Tessa Grubbs and Erica Treiber combined for 25 of the team's 53 kills in a 3-1 (20-25, 25-15, 25-10, 25-19) win over Ole Miss Friday night at Thompson-Boling Arena.

Grubbs finished with 13 kills and a .343 hitting percentage, and Treiber had 12 kills and a hitting percentage of .423 for Tennessee (12-13, 5-11 SEC). Callie Williams recorded her fourth double-double of the season with a career-high 46 assists and 12 digs.

Breana Jeter finished with a .556 hitting percentage with six kills.

Ole Miss (16-13, 7-9 SEC) didn't have chance outside of the opening set, as the Lady Vols dominated the final three sets. They give up the lead just once in the fourth set and they still went on to win 25-19.

Tennessee got out to an early lead in the opening set. The Lady Vols led by as many as six at one point, but a 6-0 run by Ole Miss tied the match up at 14-all. A kill by senior middle blocker Stephanie Buss snapped the Rebels' run.

Ole Miss was not done, as they went on an 8-0 run to take a 24-17 led before the Lady Vols scored three straight following a failed challenge by the Rebels. Kate Gibson notched her seventh kill of the set to give Ole Miss the 25-20 win in the opening set.

The Lady Vols come out in the second set on fire and never let up or looked back, as they took the set 25-15. Ole Miss had a -.106 hitting percentage in the second set, while Alyssa Andreno led Tennessee with three kills in the set to go along with two blocks.

Treiber, Grubbs and Jeter all had four kills as the Lady Vols hit .478 in the third set on their way to a dominating 25-10 win. Tennessee ended the set on a 13-5 run that was started by an attack error by Gibson.

The fourth set was a more evenly matched set, as both teams were tied at 5-all before Ole Miss took 6-5 lead following an attack error by Madison Coulter. Tennessee battled back to tie the match up at 12-12 off a kill by Andreno. It was not until Ole Miss' Lauren Bars was called for a ball handling error that the Lady Vols took the lead for good and never looked back on their way to a 25-19 set win that give them the match at 3-1.

Emily Stroup and Gibson both finished with double-digit kills for the Rebels with 15 and 12, respectfully. Ole Miss had just a .093 hitting percentage on 41 kills.

Tennessee finished with a .236 hitting percentage and 53 kills for the match to go along with 10.5 blocks as a team.Â
