Head Coach Holly Warlick Quotes
On Precious Hall having graduated from James Madison:
"It's awesome. She was a great scorer, great leader. They've adjusted well. They have some kids that have stepped up, but it is good. She was a tremendous player."
On James Madison's style of play:
"They'll press. They'll run. They'll spread the floor. They'll play some zone. They'll play some man. They will throw a variety of things at us."
On the starting lineup so far:
"They play well together. I feel like they are seasoned. I like how they get us off (to a good start)."
On experimenting with the starting lineup:
"That's the lineup right now. I think Annie Hayes (Anastasia Hayes) is doing a great job. I love her coming off the bench. It will vary based on who we play and how they practice."
On the performance of the freshmen against ETSU:
"They did some great things. They are still learning. We have got to cut down on our turnovers. ETSU was a little more physical, so they had to handle that. They got up and down the floor more. They are continuing to learn. I think it is a great learning process for them, and as long as they keep moving forward, I'm great with them."
On how she handles halftime adjustments with so many young players:
"I try to keep it simple with them at the beginning of the game. At halftime when we make adjustments, we see that we're not guarding something a certain way, and we make changes. A lot of times at halftime in the locker room, they write things on the board, and they're spot-on in what their evaluations are, as far as what they have to do better."
On what players are participating in halftime adjustments:
"I don't know who's writing those, but they're up on the board, and I go through and say, 'This is right, we have to get better at this.' Then I obviously add my things, but I think they're great basketball minds, they're observant, and they understand what they need to do better."
On how she will address the amount of turnovers committed:
"I'm okay if they're attacking the basket. If it's creating things in traffic, I'm not okay with it. We had a lot of one-handed passes. We'll correct those and look at those. I like us being aggressive, but we had way, way too many turnovers. That will lower when we understand who can catch a certain pass and who can't. And can they catch it on the run, or can they not? Was the pass on target or was it an errant pass? There are so many combinations of a lot of things."
On keeping players out of foul trouble:
"We do it every day in practice. (The referees) call touch fouls, and if they get two fouls in the first half, they're going to sit more than likely because we can't have them getting three because we need them for the second half. It has happened to Meme (Jackson), and it also happened to Rennia (Davis). We just have to get in a stance, rely on your help, and get up and pressure the ball and rely on your help. A lot of our fouls are touch fouls, we just have to clean up a couple of things."
