Stodder to Start ITA All-American Championships
October 04, 2017 | Men's Tennis
TULSA, Okla. — Tennessee junior Timo Stodder returns to the national college tennis stage Thursday in the main draw of the ITA All-American Championships.Â
Stodder is seeded in a national tournament for the first time in his career as a 9-16 seed. He is set to face Dartmouth's Charlie Broom, ranked No. 100, in the opening round at approximately 1:30 p.m. Eastern.Â
Ranked No. 17 nationally, Stodder is off to a 3-1 start in singles this year with one top-100 victory at the Gator Ranked +1 in Florida. He earned first-team All-SEC honors playing at the top of the singles and doubles lineups as a sophomore.Â
The ITA All-American Championships is the first of three historic major collegiate championships on the calendar, alongside the ITA Fall National Championships (formerly the national indoor championships) in November and the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championship in May.Â
Tennessee has historically been one of the most successful programs in tournament history with one singles title (John-Patrick Smith, 2009) and a record four doubles titles (Mikelis Libietis/Hunter Reese, 2013-14; Boris Conkic/John-Patrick Smith, 2009; Shelby Cannon/Byron Talbot, 1986). Additionally, Paul Annacone was a singles finalist in 1982.Â
