KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The #26/24-ranked Tennessee men's golf team will close out the fall portion of its schedule, as it competes in the East Bay Deli Classic on Kiawah, Island, S.C.

The event will take place Sunday through Tuesday at the Turtle Point Golf Course at the Kiawah Island Golf Resort. Tee times are 8 a.m. Eastern on Sunday and Monday, with teams starting on No. 1. The final day features a 9 a.m. shotgun start.

Coach Jim Kelson's squad returns as the tournament's defending champion after recording a 3-over-par team score of 867 in windy conditions a year ago.

This season's field features 15 teams, headed by the Vols, host Charleston Southern, College of Charleston, Coastal Carolina, Chattanooga, Francis Marion, Jacksonville State, High Point, Memphis, Presbyterian, Rutgers, Stetson, USC Upstate, Western Carolina and Winthrop.

The Vols are coming off a fifth-place finish at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate on Oct. 13-15. UT achieved that result even with senior leader Lorenzo Scalise participating in the Italian Open and sophomore Jake Meenhorst suffering an injury that forced him to withdraw during the second round.

Redshirt freshman Sean Wilcox and true freshman Chase Roswall, who was playing as an individual, tied for eighth with 8-under scores of 208. Sophomore Rhys Nevin finished 20th (214), while UT's other counting rounds came from freshman Spencer Cross (t25th, 215) and sophomore Brayden Garrison (t31st, 216).

- Tennessee was 3-over-par (867) in windy conditions to claim its first victory of 2016-17 and one of two on the season.
- UT's top two finishers in this event a year ago graduated. Jack Smith was the runner-up (211), while Juan Carlos Serrano tied for eighth (216).
- Lorenzo Scalise, Rhys Nevin and Brayden Garrison participated, with the trio tying for 69th (231).
- The Vols are seeking to open a season with four consecutive top-five finishes for the first time since 2004-05.
- That year, UT won the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate, placed fifth at the Gary Koch Intercollegiate, won the Tournament of Champions and tied for fifth at the Carpet Capital Collegiate.
- The Big Orange went on to finish fifth in the SEC Championship and 11th at the NCAA Championship that season.
- This season, the Vols opened by tying for fifth at the Carpet Capital Collegiate on Sept. 8-10, took second by three strokes at The Jackrabbit on Oct. 1-3 and finished fifth at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate on Oct. 13-15.
- Tennessee will compete with a lineup of one senior, two sophomores, a true freshman and a redshirt freshman this weekend. They'll also have another true freshman playing as an individual.
- UT's top-five season stroke averages thus far are 68.83 by redshirt freshman Sean Wilcox, 70.50 by freshman Spencer Cross, 70.67 by senior Lorenzo Scalise, 70.89 by sophomore Rhys Nevin and 71.00 by freshman Chase Roswall.
- Wilcox debuted at the Jackrabbit while playing as an individual and finished tied for 20th at 5-under (69-71-71--211). The next tournament, he was Tennessee's top counting finisher, placing eighth with an 8-under 208 at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate.
- In his collegiate debut at The Jackrabbit on Oct. 1-3, Cross was UT's second-best performer, turning in scores of 69-68-71 to card an 8-under 208 and finish 10th overall.
- Roswall played as an individual at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate on Oct. 13-15 and tied Wilcox for eighth (-8, 208).
- Sophomore Brayden Garrison leads UT with six rounds of par-or-under this season.
- Senior Lorenzo Scalise has been UT's top performer in three of his last five tournaments and seven times during his career.
- Scalise has posted top-20 efforts in three of his last five outings.
- The native of Milan, Italy, has recorded 47 rounds of par or better during his career (five of six this season) and has carded six top-10 finishes and 18 in the top 25 (one and one in those categories as a senior).
- He was out of UT's lineup at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate on Oct. 13-15, as he returned to his home country to participate in the Italian Open. Scalise took low amateur honors in the European Tour pro tournament, firing a 5-under 279 to finish 58th out of a total field of 132 golfers.
- Tennessee returns eight of 11 golfers from a year ago and added two newcomers.
- Lorenzo Scalise is the Vols' lone senior and top returnee with a stroke average of 72.17 in 30 rounds a year ago. That number was the best among Vol regulars.
- Scalise's scores counted in 27 of those 30 rounds in 2016-17, and he carded three top-10 tourney finishes as a junior.
- Rhys Nevin's score counted in 17 of 21 rounds a year ago, while Jake Meenhorst counted in 12 of 15 and Brayden Garrison's tally was included in 11 of 15. Then freshmen, their averages were 74.22 (7th), 74.07 (6th) and 75.00 (8th), respectively, on the team.
- Head coach Jim Kelson (1,962-1,374-55) is in his 20th season as head coach at UT, and he is aided by third-year director of instruction/player development Sean Pacetti.
- The Turtle Point Golf Course was designed by Jack Nicklaus and features a 6,911-yard, par-72 layout.
- It is part of the Kiawah Island Golf Resort near Charleston.
