2018 Schedule
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee softball announced its 2018 schedule Wednesday afternoon. The slate includes six NCAA Super Regional participants, two of which went on to compete in the 2017 Women's College World Series.
The 2018 schedule includes 16 teams that made the 2017 NCAA Tournament and six Super Regional participants. Oregon and LSU advanced to the Women's College World Series.
The Lady Vols are coming off their 14th consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance, and they hosted a regional for the 13th straight season after earning the No. 8 national seed. The Big Orange finished third in the SEC last year and returns 17 letterwinners from that team.
Tennessee will play 18 games at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium this year, which includes the annual Tennessee Invitational, midweek matchups against Tennessee State and East Tennessee State as well as SEC series against Missouri, Georgia, LSU and Kentucky.
Tennessee will play its first 17 games of the season away from Knoxville with several out-of-state tournaments to start the year. The Lady Vols will open the season with six games at Arizona State's Kajikawa Classic from Feb. 8-10 in Tempe, Arizona. They will face Boise State, Arizona State, Western Michigan, San Jose State, UC Davis and Super Regional participant Utah.
Following its weekend in Tempe, UT will travel to Clearwater, Florida for the Michele Smith Tournament Feb. 16-18. The Lady Vols will face Oklahoma State, UMass, Florida Atlantic, South Florida and Marshall.
Tennessee will then head to California to play six games in the Mary Nutter Classic on Feb. 22-24, taking on BYU, Bethune-Cookman, UC Davis, Oregon State, Northwestern and 2017 WCWS participant Oregon.
The Big Orange will make its home debut March 2-4, hosting the Tennessee Invitational at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium. The Lady Vols will play five games over three days, squaring off against Charleston Southern, Toledo and South Alabama before opening Southeastern Conference (SEC) play with a three-game home stand against Missouri March 9-11.
Tennessee will then play its final regular-season tournament, traveling to Hawaii from March 14-17 to take part in the Hawaii Tournament along with Cleveland State, North Dakota, host Hawaii, and Maryland before resuming SEC play.
The Lady Vols will also look to extend their 92-game unbeaten streak against in-state opponents with games against foes from the Volunteer state (Tennessee State, Memphis and East Tennessee State).
UT will have four home series and four road series in conference play, including the Missouri series in March. The rest of the home schedule is highlighted by visits from LSU (April 13-15) and Kentucky (April 27-29).
The Lady Vols will also host Georgia (March 31-April 2) at Lee Stadium.
Their four road trips will be to SEC rivals South Carolina (March 23-25), Auburn (April 6-8), Alabama (April 21-23) and Mississippi State (May 4-6).
Tennessee finished with a 16-7 record in league play a year ago, which was good enough for a third-place finish in the regular-season standings.
