KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- It’s time to get to know another senior on this year’s team, midfielder Cali Hutson.
Need to Know
Hutson enters her final season on Rocky Top as one of the Volunteers’ most experience players, ranking second on the team with 43 career games played, trailing only Hannah Wilkinson. Hutson gained valuable experience early in her career, playing in 18 games as a true freshman in 2013. The Fairfax, Va., native appeared in all 18 games last season, making a career-high seven starts. Hutson also set career highs in goals (two), assists (two) and points (six). Her best game came in a win over Belmont, when she scored goal and had an assist. She also scored a goal against Navy and had an assist in a win over Murray State.
A three-sport star in high school (soccer, track & swimming), Hutson was a highly-regarded recruit. She was ranked the 16th best player in the Mid-Atlantic Region by Top Drawer Soccer and tallied 60 goals and 60 assists in her prep career. Hutson also earned Washington Catholic Athletic Conference (WCAC) first-team honors all four years at Paul VI Catholic High School. She chose Tennessee over James Madison, George Mason and Miami. Favorite Movie: The Notebook
Favorite Musical Artist: Carrie Underwood
Celebrity Crush: Theo James
Favorite Soccer Memory: My favorite memory of soccer was my junior year in high school. My club team was in the national championship tournament playing our first game. We were tied with about 30 seconds left in the game, and I had a breakaway on the left flank. I had absolutely no angle but I shot the ball anyway and it went passed the keeper and into the net. The whistle blew immediately after I scored and we won the game. The very next game we went to penalty kicks and I scored the winning PK. My team and I went on to win the tournament.
Hobbies: I really enjoy volunteering. I volunteer at East Tennessee Children’s Hospital and the Humane Society of the Tennessee Valley. I spend as much of my free time as I can at these two places.
If not soccer, what sport? It would be gymnastics. I was a gymnast for about eight years, and it’s a sport I really enjoy and miss.
Dream job outside of soccer: Being an Occupational Therapist
Favorite Thing About Tennessee: I love the culture. Everyone is nice and I like how it’s much slower pace than my hometown around Washington D.C.
