Roster Schedule StatsNeed to Know
Tennessee went 1-1 last week to open the 2016 season with a 1-0 loss to Southeast Missouri in the season opener before bouncing back with a 1-0 victory over Liberty on Sunday night. Maya Neal scored her first collegiate goal to help the Vols beat the Flames while goalkeeper Jamie Simmons made four saves to record the eighth shutout of her UT career.
Neal Off to Hot Start
The redshirt freshman scored the game-winning goal in the 77th minute of Tennessee’s 1-0 victory over Liberty on Sunday. Neal also led the team with a career-high six shots on the night, and if not for a few spectacular saves by the Flames’ goalkeeper, likely would have had multiple goals in the contest. The Naperville, Ill., native has started both games for the Vols this season after missing nearly all of last year with an injury and has been the team’s most consistent offensive threat so far.
Stingy Defensive Effort Continues
The Big Orange have picked up where they left off defensively from 2015. After ranking second in the SEC in goals allowed (18), GAA (0.93) and shutouts (nine) last year, the Vols allowed just a single goal in two games last week. UT also outshot its opponents 35-24 last week.
Vols Tabbed Ninth in SEC Preseason Poll
UT was picked to finish ninth in the SEC this season by the league’s 14 head coaches in the preseason poll. Defending regular-season and tournament champion, Florida, was picked to win the league. View the entire preseason poll HERE.

Washington
The Huskies are 0-1 after falling to Portland, 2-1, in their season opener last week. Washington went 12-7-2 last season and lost to Texas A&M in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament. UW returns its top nine scorers from a year ago, led by Shannon Simon and Kimberly Keever. Simon led the team with seven goals and five assists last season, and scored the Huskies lone goal in their season-opening loss to Portland. Keever finished second on the team with six goals in 2015.
UT’s All-Time Record vs. Washington: 1-1-0 (UT won the last meeting, 1-0, back in 2005)
