KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Today we continue our countdown by meeting another homegrown talent in redshirt junior defender Kathryn Culhane.
Need to Know
Culhane enters her redshirt junior season as one of the Vols’ most reliable defenders. The Knoxville native had a breakout year in 2015, starting all 18 games as a center back for Tennessee while helping the team rank second in the SEC in goals allowed (18), goals against average (0.93) and shutouts (nine). Culhane led all field players in playing time last season after only playing in nine games the year prior, logging 1,708 minutes played. She played the entire game in all but two matches and played every minute of all 11 of the Vols’ SEC contests.
Culhane is also a standout student who earned CoSIDA Academic All-District second-team honors last season after posting a 3.85 cumulative GPA while majoring in mechanical engineering. She is also one of the soccer team’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) representatives.
