BATON ROUGE, La. -- In its final road match of the regular season, the Tennessee women's tennis team lost, 5-2, against 16th-ranked LSU Sunday at the LSU Tennis Complex.
The Volunteers (8-14, 1-10 SEC) began the match strong, taking the doubles point over the Tigers (17-9, 6-6 SEC), but LSU bounced back to win five of the six courts in singles.
UT started off doubles with a quick 6-2 win by the 73rd-ranked duo freshman Sadie Hammond and junior Eve Repic over Joana Vale Costa and Jessica Golovin on Court 1. The Vols clinched the doubles point following a 7-5 win on Court 2 by junior Brittany Lindl and freshman Kim Kermet over Abby Owens and Ryann Foster.
In singles, Kermet was the lone Vol win her match, defeating Foster in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3, on Court 3. Tennessee dropped the remaining matches.
The Volunteers return home for the final weekend of the regular season Friday, as the team faces No. 10 South Carolina at 3 p.m. and will then take on No. 6 Florida for Senior Day on Sunday at 1 p.m. Both matches will be played at Barksdale Stadium.
