Vols Drop Match to USC, 7-0

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The Tennessee women's tennis team struggled to get started Friday, losing, 7-0, to No. 11 South Carolina at Barksdale Stadium.
The Volunteers (8-15, 1-11 SEC) fell behind early after dropping the doubles point to the Gamecocks (17-5, 9-3 SEC). South Carolina's success carried over to singles, where they swept every court.
In doubles, junior Brittany Lindl and freshman Kim Kermet dropped a 6-2 match to Caroline Dailey and Brigit Folland on Court 2. USC clinched the doubles point when the duo of freshman Sadie Hammond and junior Eve Repic fell to 25th-ranked team of Paige Cline and Hadley Berg, 6-4, on Court 1.
In singles, Tennessee dropped Courts 1, 2 and 3 to ranked opponents in straight sets. With the match clinched by the Gamecocks, the two teams decided to play out the remaining matches. Despite UT forcing third sets on two of the courts, South Carolina went on to sweep the remaining courts.
The Volunteers will be back in action Sunday for Senior Day, as they prepare to take on the SEC-leading Florida Gators at Barksdale Stadium at 1 p.m. Senior Tiffany Tavares will be honored before the match begins on Court 1.
