Vols Split Matches in Doubleheader

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The Tennessee women’s tennis team (8-9, 1-5 SEC) split matches in a doubleheader between Belmont and Vanderbilt Thursday at VU’s Currey Tennis Center.
The Vols began the day with a shutout win over the Bruins, 4-0. The two teams only competed in singles, which was all Tennessee needed to cruise to a win. In its second match of the day, UT fell, 7-0, to No. 5 Vanderbilt (11-4, 4-2 SEC). The Commodores took the doubles point and then swept the Volunteers on every court in singles.
Against Belmont, juniors Eve Repic and Ashlee Boles both won in 6-2, 6-2 matches on Courts 1 and 5. Fellow junior Brittany Lindl breezed past Ann Lauren Fiepke, 6-0, 6-1, on Court 3. Senior Tiffany Tavares beat Maddie Gilley, 6-2, 6-0, on Court 4.
The Volunteers were leading on the two courts that went unfinished.
In the second match of the day, Tennessee struggled to find success against the top-10 Commodores, losing in straight sets in all the singles matches.
The Vols will be back in action Saturday, as the team travels to Lexington to face the Kentucky Wildcats at Hilary J. Boone Tennis Center. The match will begin at noon between the two teams.
