Tennessee vs. Carson-Newman
- No. 13/14 Tennessee will play its lone exhibition game of the 2016-17 campaign on Monday, facing off vs. NCAA Division II school Carson-Newman at 7 p.m. ET.
- This marks the fifth season of the Holly Warlick era, and the fourth straight year UT embarks on a campaign with one exhibition game on its schedule.
- Following Monday night's encounter with C-N, Tennessee will hit the road for its season-opener at James Madison at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 11.

Tennessee In Exhibition Games
- UT is 45-4 all-time in preseason exhibition games, with the only losses coming to the Soviet National Team (1979), Athletes in Action (1992) and the USA National Team (1995, 2007).
- Tennessee is 5-0 in preseason exhibition games during the Holly Warlick era, with the Big Orange defeating C-N four times (2012, 2013, 2014, 2015) and Coker (2012) on one occasion.
- Including a 14-7 record on international tours, Tennessee is 59-11 overall in exhibition games.
A Look At The Lady Vols
- The Lady Vols return eight players from last season's NCAA Elite Eight squad and have three newcomers for a roster of 11. Nine of those players will see action this season, while two redshirt due to injury.
- Last year's unit finished 22-14 overall and 8-8 in SEC play (t7th) but rallied to earn the program's third NCAA Elite Eight berth in the past four seasons.
- Tennessee has been picked to finish third in the SEC by both the media and the league's coaches, following defending champ South Carolina and 2015-16 runner-up Mississippi State.
- Diamond DeShields (first team) and Mercedes Russell (second team) were named to the 2016-17 Coaches Preseason All-SEC Team.
- DeShields also made the five-player Media Preseason All-SEC Team.
- After ending last season unranked in the AP Poll and 19th in the USA Today Coaches Poll, the Lady Vols open ranked 13th and 14th, respectively.
- In other polls, the U.S. Basketball Writer's Association has UT 12th; AP, Sporting News and Athlon Sports have UT ranked 13th; the Lady Vols are 14th in the USA Today Coaches Poll and the espnW Poll (t14); and Lindy's has the Lady Vols at No. 16.
A Look At The Lady Eagles
- Carson-Newman is coming off a season in which it finished 18-11 overall and 12-10 in the South Atlantic Conference, good for a tie for sixth place.
- C-N is picked to finish fourth this season in the preseason SAC poll.
- Senior guard Kailyn Brooks (Lafayette, Tenn.), a preseason first-team All-SAC pick, leads the charge after tying for the team lead with 13.8 points per game and enters the year with 123 three-pointers, sixth in program history, and 224 points short of 1,000 for her career.
- Head coach Mike Mincey is in his sixth season on the job and has put together an 85-58 record at Mossy Creek.
- On Nov. 2, C-N played at North Carolina, falling to the Tarheels, 96-70, in a game the Lady Eagles led by eight in the second period and by four at the half.
- Mika Wester, a 5-11 sophomore guard/forward who transferred from Western Carolina, tallied 11 points, as did 6-0 senior forward Kaitlyn Cupples.
- Carson-Newman hit five three-pointers in the first half (on 15 shots) to help build the lead but went 1 of 9 in the second half as UNC pulled away.

- Monday night's match-up between the Lady Vols and Lady Eagles will be the 29th meeting between the programs with UT holding a 26-2 mark in all contests.
- Tennessee and Carson-Newman have met during the regular season on 16 occasions, with the Lady Vols owning a 14-2 advantage in the series.
- The Lady Vols and Lady Eagles have met on the hardwood in 12 exhibition contests, with UT prevailing in all 12 of them.
