Wilkinson Named NSCAA Women's College Player of the Week
October 04, 2016 | Soccer
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee star forward Hannah Wilkinson has been named the Women's College Player of the Week by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) after leading the team with seven points in two games last week.
This marks the first time Wilkinson has earned NSCAA Player of the Week honors in her illustrious career and the first time a Vols' player has earned the honor since Alexis Owens did so back in 2011.
The New Zealand native had her best week of the season, scoring three goals while adding an assist as UT went 1-1 for the week. The graduate student played a part in all four of the team's goals last week, starting with an assist on Tennessee's first goal against in-state rival Vanderbilt before scoring the equalizer in the 80th minute against the Commodores last Friday. Wilkinson followed that performance up with the fifth two-goal game of her career, which included scoring a golden goal in overtime to defeat Indiana State on Sunday. Her overtime goal against the Sycamores was the ninth game-winning goal of her career.
With her three-goal week, Wilkinson moved into a tie for third on Tennessee's career goals list with 28. She also jumped up to fifth on the program's all-time scoring chart with 71 career points. The New Zealand national team member currently leads the Vols with six goals and 18 points this season while also ranking second on the team with six assists. She needs just four more points to set a new single-season career high in points.
Wilkinson was also named the Tennessee Sportswriters Association Women's Soccer Player of the Week and was an honorable mention for the Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Week after her standout performances last week. The Volunteers return to action this Thursday with a road contest at LSU before returning home on Sunday to host Texas A&M.
