Leach Added to Easton/NFCA Scholar-Athlete List

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee sophomore infielder Aubrey Leach has been added to the list of Volunteers who earned Easton/NFCA Scholar-Athlete recognition, joining seven other players to give UT eight total honorees.
Leach, Erin Gabriel, Rainey Gaffin, Megan Geer, Matty Moss, Abby Lockman, Kelsey Morrison and Bria Bush all earned recognition after posting GPA’s of 3.5 or higher during the 2015-16 academic school year.
In total, there were 1,240 Division I players who earned Easton/NFCA Scholar-Athlete honors and 5,152 player across all divisions of the NCAA. The Volunteers were one of eight Southeastern Conference teams with multiple players selected as scholar-athletes.
Leach had a phenomenal freshman season for the Vols in 2016, earning SEC All-Freshmen Team honors after ranking fifth on the team with a .348 batting average. The Texas native also finished fourth on the team in runs (50) and hits (57) while adding 23 RBIs and 12 stolen bases. Earlier this year, Leach became the second softball player in program history to be named to Tennessee’s VOLeaders Academy.
