September 24, 2015 | Softball

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The Tennessee softball program hosted the children from the Knoxville Challenger League for a friendly scrimmage Thursday at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium.
The Knoxville Challenger Little League program, which began in 1997, has 120 participants ages five to 35 in Knox County. The program provides Knox County children with mental or physical disabilities the ability to be active in the community and participate in baseball, softball, basketball, golf, swimming and bowling.
Nic Arning, who organizes the Knoxville Challenger League, had nothing but praise for the Tennessee athletics program.
"UT has always been great with us," Arning said.
The event marks the second year that the league has visited Lee Stadium to visit the softball team. The Volunteer baseball team has hosted the league the past four years.
Tennessee softball players also enjoy the time they spend with the youth.
"It's a great experience for all of us just to have some of the community come out, participate and see all of these young kids that really look up to us players and enjoy what we do even though they cant have the same abilities that we have," senior Lexi Overstreet said. "To see them smile and see them happy really puts a smile on our face, too."
