UT Alums Wrap USA Summer With Gold In Japan Cup

OGAKI, Gifu, Japan -- Tennessee alums Raven Chavanne and Lauren Gibson and the USA Softball Women's National Team concluded their 2015 summer schedule this past weekend with a victory 2-1, eight-inning victory over host Japan in the Japan Cup gold medal game.
Chavanne went 2-for-4 with a stolen base in Sunday's championship game. Gibson went 1-for-4 with a stolen base.
After seven scoreless innings, Team USA scored two runs in the top of the eighth when Michelle Moultrie hit a two-run double to left field. Japan answered with one run on a sacrifice fly but the U.S. held on for the win. Ally Carda threw eight innings with two strikeouts and no earned runs to get the win.
The Americans went 3-1 in the tournament with a 7-0 (6) win over Australia on Aug. 7, a 3-0 loss to Japan on Aug. 8 and a 5-3 win over Chinese Taipei on Aug. 8.
Chavanne enjoyed an outstanding summer for the Stars & Stripes, hitting a team-best .458 (22-for-48) with one homer, one double, six RBIs, eight runs and two stolen bases. Gibson hit .265 (9-for-34) with four RBIs, eight runs and one stolen base.
In July, the Tennessee alums and Team USA took gold in the World Cup of Softball X and silver in the Pan American Games.
