Thoughts From 37: Happy Summer! (6/5)
June 05, 2015 | Soccer
Hello everyone!
I hope you all are having a wonderful summer - filled with fun activities, beautiful weather, and of course, soccer! This is the first of many blogs to come. I hope for these blogs to give you a behind-the-scenes look at how things function within the soccer team and program here at Tennessee.
MEETING THE BLOGGER
My name is Anna McClung. I was born and raised in a small town in Virginia, called Gate City. After spending my first year playing soccer at Florida State University (2013), I transferred to Tennessee in the spring of 2014. I am currently a rising junior on the Tennessee soccer team. Academically, I am pursuing a degree in Public Relations, with a minor in Business Administration. On the field, you can most likely find me in one of the wide forward positions. Some of my most favorite things in the entire world include taking on defenders and either scoring a goal or getting a cross off that sets up my teammates to put the ball in to back of the net! Feel free to learn more about me by clicking HERE.
WHY 37?
I am well aware that the number 37 is pretty unconventional. It's safe to say that I haven't had too much trouble securing it for myself over the years due to its popularity - or lack thereof! However, this number has a great deal of meaning to me. I wear it to honor my dad, who has been one of my biggest supporters since I laced up my first pair of soccer cleats. He wore this number throughout his life and into his college football days at Virginia Tech. Following his lead, my uncles Seth McClung (MLB) and Sam McClung (Tusculum College) adopted the number throughout their athletic careers. I am proud to say that it is now my turn to carry on the tradition.
WHAT'S IN STORE FOR THIS SUMMER?
As I am sure you are all aware, it is prime time in the world of women's soccer! That's right, it's finally time again for the World Cup! As you all are getting decked out in your red, white, and blue, don't forget to support my fellow scooter gang member and teammate, Hannah Wilkinson, who will be competing for New Zealand!
While some of my teammates are playing for teams at home, taking summer classes, or getting some well-deserved down time, a handful of us will be spending our summer in Knoxville. Our summer will consist of classes, fitness packets and playing summer-league soccer for the Knoxville Force. If in the area, we would love for you to come support us at some of our home games! I'm excited to say that starting in July we will have all of our newcomers in Knoxville. All of this year's incoming freshmen will be here a little early in order to get adjusted to campus life and to prepare for their first preseason.
