KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee softball alumna Cheyanne Tarango has joined the Mexican National Team and is competing in World Cup of Softball X, which started Monday and runs through July 5 in Irvine, Calif.
Tarango, who has Mexican heritage, completed her four-year Rocky Top career last month when Tennessee made its seventh trip to the Women's College World Series. She is one of just 16 UT players to have played on three WCWS teams (2012, 2013, 2015). Tarango pitched the final 4.1 scoreless frames of UT's 4-2 eliminating loss to Auburn, allowing just one hit and one walk. She also connected for a RBI single through the right side in the bottom of the fifth.
Tarango was a dual-threat player, going 14-5 in 55 appearances (17 starts) with a 3.47 career ERA and 86 strikeouts over 135.1 innings and hitting .239 (108-for-452) with 19 homers, 19 doubles, 89 RBIs, 55 runs scored, 67 walks and a .786 OPS over her four years. She holds Tennessee's all-time record for times hit by a pitch in a career at 35.
