MOULTRIE, Ga. -- Tennessee rising junior Michael Howell qualified for USA Diving National Championships for the first time with a second-place finish on platform this week.
Howell scored 302.75 to take silver at the USA Diving National Preliminary Zone B Championships.
"I am very proud of Michael's performance today and extremely pleased he has qualified for the first Nationals, senior or junior, of his career," Tennessee diving coach Dave Parrington said. "Michael has been training his tail off this summer and made some changes in his nutritional habits, both of which have resulted in some big gains in his level of performance, as shown by his career best score.
"This is a huge step in his career and I look forward to his competing at nationals in Orlando this August."
Howell also took 12th on the 3-meter springboard (273.20).
