May 28, 2015 | Women's Basketball
Aided by members of the basketball staff, freshmen Te'a Cooper and Meme Jackson moved into their dorm rooms on Thursday. Both will begin the first session of summer school at Tennessee on Monday and become the newest members of the Lady Vol program.
Cooper, a 5-foot-8 point guard from Powder Springs, Ga. (McEachern H.S.), averaged 27.3 points and 7.3 assists as a senior in leading MHS to its third 6A state title in her four seasons. She was a McDonald's, WBCA, USA TODAY and MaxPreps All-American, earning co-MVP honors at the 2015 McDonald's All-American Game and was ranked No. 19 by espnW Hoop Gurlz and No. 1 by D1Spects.com.
Jackson, a 5-11 wing player, joins Alexa Middleton as Tennessee's second player from Murfreesboro, Tenn., although Middleton attended Riverdale and Jackson is a graduate of rival Blackman. Jackson, a two-time all-state player, averaged 9.3 points, 5.3 rebounds and 4.3 assists as a senior on a balanced squad that won the last two state titles. She was ranked No. 35 by espnW HoopGurlz and No. 21 by Blue Star.
Both players will be eligible to travel and play on Tennessee's three-game Italian Tour in August.
