Sullivan to Join Men's Tennis in Fall
April 20, 2015 | Men's Tennis
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Men's tennis head coach Sam Winterbotham announced that Memphis native Marshall Sullivan will join the program next season as the first member of the 2015 recruiting class.
Sullivan, a four-star player by TennisRecruiting.net, is the fourth-ranked recruit from the state of Tennessee and is a top-50 player in the southeast.
"Marshall's a really talented athlete," Winterbotham said. "He's a late bloomer in tennis primarily because he played basketball as his main sport much of his life. Now that he's decided to focus on tennis full time, he's already making really good strides.
"It's always great to have more Tennesseans in the program, and we expect Marshall to have an impact on this team down the road."
Representing St. George's on the high school courts, he won the Tennessee Division 2-A state singles title in 2013 and reached the semifinals in 2014. Other recent Tennessee state singles champions to sign with the Vols include Brandon Fickey (the state's first four-time state singles champion), Sean Karl and Colton Norton. Taylor Patrick won a state doubles title.
Sullivan reached the second round in both singles and doubles at the USTA National Winter Championships to close 2014.
