KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Erin Gabriel's 10 strikeouts and a trio of home runs from Megan Geer, Meghan Gregg and Lexi Overstreet led No. 11 Tennessee to an 8-0 win in five innings over Indiana State in its second game of the day.
Tennessee (14-3) improved to 3-0 at home in its shutout win, the sixth of the season. Indiana State (3-11) dropped to 1-1 in the Tennessee Invitational. The Lady Vols scored one in the second, six in the third and one in the fourth.
Gabriel (6-1) enjoyed a dominant performance that included 10 strikeouts with just two hits allowed over five shutout frames. She fanned six consecutive Indiana State batters over the first three innings.
Gregg continued her home hot streak, going 3-for-3 with a homer, a double and two RBIs. Geer and Overstreet drove in two runs each.
ISU's Taylor Lockwood (2-5) took the loss after allowing three earned runs over 2.0 innings. Abby Klopp gave up four runs (one earned) over one relief inning. Yvette Alvarez gave up one earned run in on relief frame.
Geer put UT on the board in the second with a solo home run to right field. The homer marked her fourth on the season.
The Lady Vol bats were on fire in the third, posting six more runs on the board. Gregg blasted a two-run shot--over the right field wall, driving in Shaliyah Geathers. The blast marked her fifth home run on the year and her fourth of the weekend. Scarlet McSwain followed with an RBI double to right field and Geer added an RBI sacrifice bunt. With two outs, Overstreet hammered a two-run homer to right field.
UT added another run in the fourth. Rainey Gaffin reached on a fielder's choice and drove in Lauren Irwin.
The Lady Vols will conclude the Tennessee Invitational Sunday with two games. UT face Purdue at 12:15 p.m. ET and Indiana State at 2:30 p.m. ET. Both games can be seen online on SEC Network +. Live stats and the live blog will be available at UTSports.com.
