#15 UT Rallies Past #7 UGA, 6-2

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Gretchen Aucoin hit a solo homer in the second inning and No. 15 Tennessee rallied with a five-run fifth inning to defeat No. 7 Georgia, 6-2, on Sunday at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium.
With the win, Tennessee (25-7, 5-3 SEC) takes the series with the chance for a sweep on Monday. UT scored one run in the second inning and five in the fifth. Georgia (29-7, 6-5 SEC) scored runs in the second and third innings.
Aucoin finished 1-for-2 with the solo blast, two runs and two RBIs. Shaliyah Geathers had a big two-RBI, pinch-hit single in the fifth that gave UT a four-run lead.
Aucoin (9-2) threw five solid frames with two strikeouts and two runs allowed to earn the win. Rainey Gaffin struck out three over two scoreless relief innings.
Georgia starter Brittany Gray (11-2) had one of her worst outings of the season, giving up six runs (four earned) over 4.2 innings. Chelsea Wilkinson threw 1.1 shutout innings in relief.
Georgia took a 1-0 lead when Anna Swafford hit a solo homer to open the second inning. Swafford swung at the first pitch she saw from Aucoin and sent it high over the left field wall.
Aucoin evened the game at 1-1 when she hit a leadoff homer to center in the bottom of the second. Aucoin sent a 1-0 pitch from UGA starter Brittany Gray to straightaway centerfield for her fifth homer of the season.
The Bulldogs pulled back in front in the third inning when Swafford hit a two-out RBI triple off the wall in right field, scoring Sydni Emanuel from second base.
Tennessee surged with a five-run fifth inning to take control of the game. Meghan Gregg ripped a one-out RBI single up the middle to score Lexi Overstreet from second base and tie game at 2-2. Two batters later, Aucoin was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, scoring Gaffin from third base and giving UT a 3-2 lead. After Megan Geer hit an RBI single to third base, Georgia made a pitching change with Wilkinson entering in relief of Gray. Geathers delivered a two-RBI pinch-hit single through the right side to push Tennessee's lead to 6-2.
Tennessee and Georgia will conclude their season series on Monday at 7 p.m. at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium. The game will be televised live on SEC Network with Cara Capuano as the play-by-play announcer and Amanda Scarborough as the analyst.
