SEC WBB COMMUNITY SERVICE TEAM
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- For the second year in a row, Lady Vol forward Cierra Burdick has been named to the SEC Women's Basketball Community Service Team.
In a continuing effort to recognize the accomplishments of student-athletes beyond the field of competition, the SEC once again highlighted a Community Service Team for women's basketball for the 2014-15 season.
This marks the 17th year for the SEC Community Service Team for women's basketball as well as for men's basketball. All league-sponsored sports have had a Community Service Team since 2004, with at-large teams for men's and women's sports being chosen from 1999-2003. The SEC began this concept with a football Community Service Team in 1994.
Burdick, a 6-2 senior from Charlotte, N.C., has played in 25 games, starting 20 of them for the #6/6 Lady Vols (23-4, 13-1 SEC). She is averaging 10.7 points and 7.0 rebounds per game entering UT's final two regular-season contests.
It's the off-the-court work, however, that Burdick is being recognized for once again this season.
She established the DREAM Team (Daring to Role model Excellence as an Athletic Mentor), which consists of student-athletes who are committed to being drug, alcohol, tobacco and violence free. The DREAM Team members present positive outreach programs in schools, non-profit organizations, and among their peers on campus.
Burdick also has shared her time with Boys and Girls Republic of New York City, Camp Montvale & Harmony Family Center, Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, East Tennessee Children's Hospital, Habitat for Humanity, Hoops For Hope, Shannondale Nursing Home, Tennessee School For The Deaf and VOLoween. Additionally she participated in Let's Move, Water Angels Ministries and Mount Zion Baptist Church/Emerald Youth programs, as well as speaking at area schools.
