CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. -- Freshman Scarlet McSwain hit a solo home run and an RBI single but No. 10 Tennessee came up short in its comeback attempt on Saturday afternoon, falling to Nebraska, 5-2, in the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic.

Tennessee (11-3) scored in the first and the fourth innings off of McSwain's run-scoring hits. Nebraska (6-7) scored one in the first, two in the fourth and two in the seventh.

Gretchen Aucoin (5-2) took the loss after allowing three runs over three innings. Rainey Gaffin allowed one run over one relief inning. Erin Gabriel gave up one run over three relief frames.

Emily Lockman (3-3) earned the win for Nebraska after allowing two scores in 4.1 innings. Cassie McClure earned her first save after throwing 2.2 scoreless relief frames.

Kiki Stokes hit a leadoff home run in the first inning to put Nebraska up 1-0.

Tennessee answered in the bottom of the first when McSwain knocked a bases-loaded RBI single to center field with one out, scoring Megan Geer.

The Huskers reclaimed the lead in the top of the fourth when Laura Barrow reached on an error at second base and Kat Woolman scored from third base. Mattie Fowler followed with an RBI single through the right side to push Nebraska's lead to 3-1.

The Lady Vols pulled to within 3-2 in the bottom of the fourth when McSwain hammered a 1-1 pitch over the fence in left center for a leadoff home run.

Tennessee stranded two in the fifth and one in the sixth before Stokes hit another home run in the top of the seventh. This one was a two-run shot to right field with no outs.

The Lady Vols return to Knoxville this week to open their 2015 home schedule against Georgia Tech on Tuesday, Feb. 24, at 4 p.m. at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium.
