#11 Tennessee Storms Past USF, 9-1

TAMPA, Fla. -- Rainey Gaffin, Annie Aldrete and Tory Lewis hit home runs and Gretchen Aucoin fanned 10 batters over seven strong innings to lead No. 11 Tennessee to a 9-1 victory over USF on Saturday in the USF Presidents Day Weekend Tournament.
Tennessee (7-0) took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Aldrete hit a two-out solo homer to straightaway center field. UT added two in the third, five in the sixth and one in the seventh. USF (5-3) scored its lone run in the third.
Aucoin (4-0) tallied a season-high 10 strikeouts while allowing one earned run over seven innings. The win also marked her second complete game of the season and the 13th of her career.
Shaliyah Geathers finished 3-for-4 with two RBIs, one double and one run scored. Lewis went 2-for-3 with a triple, a homer and three runs. Gaffin had the home run, two RBIs and two runs scored.
Erica Nunn (1-2) took the loss after allowing three earned runs over 2.1 frames. Sam Greiner tossed 4.2 relief frames with six runs (four earned) allowed.
In the first inning, Aldrete drilled a 1-0 pitch from Nunn to dead center field, over the screen behind the fence for her second home run of the year.
Tennessee's lead grew to 3-0 in the third inning. Lewis ripped a one-out triple off the right fielder's glove on the warning track and Gaffin followed with a two-run home run off the left field foul pole.
USF scored its lone run in the bottom of the third when Juli Weber hit a two-out RBI single to center field, scoring D'Anna Devine on the play.
The Lady Vols poured on five runs in the sixth to extend their lead to 8-1. With the bases loaded and two outs, Megan Geer scored on a wild pitch and Geathers followed with a two-run double to left center. Two batters later, Taylor Koenig hit an RBI single through the left side. Scarlet McSwain added an RBI single to center field.
Lewis rounded out Tennessee's scoring in the seventh inning when she hit a two-out solo blast to left field. Lewis made good contact on a 1-0 pitch from Greiner to lift the ball over the fence in front of the USF batting cage in left field. The home run was the first of Lewis' career.
