November 30, 2015 | Softball

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. -- The Amateur Softball Association (ASA) of America and USA Softball announced today that Rainey Gaffin and Brooke Vines, among others, have accepted invitations to attend the 2016 USA Softball Women’s National Team (WNT) Selection Camp.
Gaffin and Vines join Meghan Gregg as active Tennessee players that will attend the 2016 selection camp Jan. 2-8, 2016 in Irvine, Calif. Also attending the camp will be UT alumna Raven Chavanne (2013). They will all be vying for 17 spots on the 2016 national team that will compete at the World Cup of Softball XI, the XV World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) Women's World Championship and the Japan Cup.
Gaffin emerged as one of UT’s most valuable players during its postseason run to the Women’s College World Series last season. The Thornton, Colo., native was named an NFCA Second-Team All-American during her junior campaign after leading the Vols’ pitching staff with a 2.17 earned run average and a 17-4 record. She also ranked second on the team with 46 runs scored and 58 hits while batting .315 on the year.
Vines has yet to play a game for the Volunteers but is considered one the top freshmen in the nation heading into this season. She was the No. 7 ranked player in Full Count Softball’s Hot 100 and led her club team, the So Cal Athletics, to national championships in 2012 and 2013. The Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif., native had a superb fall, leading Tennessee with a .640 batting average, 16 hits and 13 runs in eight games.
