2014-15 Men's Tennis Schedule Released
September 10, 2014 | Men's Tennis
Tennessee released its 2014-15 men's tennis schedule Wednesday, and the fall season's individual competition is just around the corner.
Head coach Sam Winterbotham and associate head coach Chris Woodruff begin their ninth season coaching together Friday when the Vols travel to the Southern Intercollegiate Championships in Athens, Ga.
Ten individual tournaments are on the schedule during the fall semester. The ITA All-American Championships, the first major of the season, is Oct. 2-5 in Tulsa, Okla. The major title to wrap up the fall, the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships, is Nov. 6-9 in Flushing, N.Y.
The team season begins in January with a home doubleheader against North Florida and Southern Illinois. SEC play opens Feb. 27 with a road match at LSU.
Texas A&M will host the SEC Championship (April 15-19), and Baylor is serving as the final host site of the NCAA team and singles and doubles championships (May 14-25).
The Vols finished the 2013-14 season by reaching the NCAA round of 16 for sixth time in eight years. Tennessee returns five of six starters from that team, including NCAA doubles champions Mikelis Libietis and Hunter Reese. Seniors Brandon Fickey and Andrew Dromsky and junior Bartosz Sawicki are also returning starters, with Dromsky and Sawicki both set for their first fall season competition at UT.
Three freshmen are on schedule to start their careers this weekend: Jess Jones, Igor Smilansky, and Luis Valero.
