UT Alums, USA Take Silver At ISF World Championship

HAARLEM, Netherlands -- Raven Chavanne had two hits and Lauren Gibson drove in a run, but the USA Softball Women's National Team fell to Japan, 4-1, on Sunday to take silver in the ISF XIV World Championship.
Chavanne finished 2-for-4 and Gibson drove in a run in the fifth inning on a fielder's choice.
Earlier in the day, the Americans crushed Australia, 8-1, to earn their spot in the gold-medal game. Chavanne went 3-for-4 with one RBI and one run scored to help the U.S. take the game in six innings.
Team USA went 9-2 in the ISF XIV World Championship. The conclusion of the World Championship also means the conclusion of the 2014 USA Softball Women's National Team season. The senior squad finished the year with a 28-6 record in international tournament play. Following a four-month break, Team USA will regroup in January with a selection camp to choose the roster that will compete in the 2015 Pan-American Games among other events. Chavanne and Gibson were two of Team USA's brightest stars this summer. Chavanne led the Red, White and Blue with a .464 batting average (45-for-97) and posted two homers, one double, 19 RBIs, 26 runs, eight walks. She also tallied a team-best 10 stolen bases this summer in 12 attempts and finished with a .509 on-base percentage and a .536 slugging percentage for a 1.045 OPS.
Gibson hit. 310 (26-for-84) and was one of the Americans' main power threats, ranking second on the team in RBIs (23) home runs (five), doubles (eight) and extra-base hits (13). Gibson totaled 23 runs and 11 walks and finished with a .398 on-base percentage, a .482 slugging percentage and a .865 OPS.
