HAARLEM, Netherlands -- Raven Chavanne tallied three hits and two runs and Lauren Gibson hit an RBI double to help the USA Softball Women's National Team crush Italy, 7-0, in five innings on Thursday in the ISF XIV World Championships.
Chavanne hit 3-for-4 from the leadoff spot and scored runs in the first and the second innings. Gibson's RBI double with one out in the first inning plated Chavanne from first base and gave Team USA a 1-0 lead. Jaclyn Traina and Sara Nevins combined to no-hit the Italians as the U.S. cruised to an international run-rule victory.
The Americans ended pool play with a perfect 7-0 record. The U.S. will be the No. 1 seed from Pool B entering Friday's playoffs and face Canada, the second-place team from Pool A.
