November 13, 2014 | Soccer
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Tennessee junior Gabby Santorio has been named to the 2014 SEC Soccer Community Service Team, as announced by the conference on Thursday.
The SEC sponsors Community Service Teams for all 21 league sponsored sports. The Community Service Team looks to highlight an athlete from each school who gives back to their community in superior service efforts. The 11th annual women's soccer Community Service Team also includes Alabama's Laura Lee Smith, Arkansas' Margaret Power, Auburn's Tori Ball, Florida's Jillian Graff, Georgia's Andie Fontanetta, Kentucky's Danielle Fitzgerald, LSU's Catalina Rubiano, Ole Miss' Kelly McCormick, Mississippi State's Shelby Jordan, Missouri's Brittanee Randle, South Carolina's Taylor Leach, Texas A&M's Allie Bailey and Vanderbilt's Erin Myers.
Santorio has been one of Tennessee's standouts in community service over the past year. She has participated in a variety of community service events that involve fundraising for charities, interaction with local children and construction of homes. Last spring she took part in the Knoxville Color Me Rad 5K, which helped raise money for Feed ONE, an organization that works to end child hunger. Santorio has also volunteered her time to work with local youth soccer clubs, giving tours and mentoring at soccer camps and clinics. Over the summer, she and her teammates put their work gloves on and helped construct a house with Habitat for Humanity. Santorio has demonstrated a commitment to excellence both on the field and in the community.
