October 18, 2014 | Men's Tennis
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee junior Bartosz Sawicki ended his fall season Saturday at the USTA/ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships at Currey Tennis Center.
In the consolation singles draw, Sawicki won his first match via a third-set super tiebreaker but lost the same way a few hours later in the quarterfinal round.
Sawicki beat Vanderbilt's Tate Allwardt 6-1, 3-6 [10-7] in the round of 16 before losing to Conner Huertas of ETSU 1-6, 6-4, [13-11].
Sawicki ended his fall with a 12-6 record, the most singles wins on the team. The native of Poznan, Poland, won only seven matches as a sophomore during the spring season. Two weeks ago, he won his first collegiate singles title at the UTC/Steve Baras Fall Classic.
The Ohio Valley Championships wrap up the fall tournament season for most of the Vols. Tennessee bagged five individual titles.
The season was highlighted by Mikelis Libietis and Hunter Reese's run to the first back-to-back doubles titles in the history of the ITA All-American Championships. The duo also picked up a second title at the Wake Forest Fall Invitational. Libietis made it a clean sweep at Wake Forest by winning a singles title as well. Igor Smelyanski and Andrew Dromsky won the doubles title at the Southern Intercollegiate Championships.
