Four Vols Advance to Start Tennis Regionals

Senior Hunter Reese, the defending champion, received a bye and later defeated Vanderbilt's Ryan Smith 6-2, 6-2 to advance to the third round.
All three of the Vols' freshmen reached the tournament's second day. Jess Jones beat MTSU's Victor Hoang 7-5, 7-5. Luis Valero rebounded in the third set to defeat Kentucky's Trey Yates 6-3, 6-7 (5), 6-3. Igor Smelyanski completed one of the last matches of the day, defeating Belmont's Robin Demasse 6-2, 6-7 (5), 6-3.
Four of the Vols earned first-round byes. Senior Andrew Dromsky won his opening-round match before losing in the second round to MTSU's Ettore Zito. Junior Bartosz Sawicki lost his first-round match.
The Vols have three doubles teams in the second round of the tournament. Reese and Sawicki earned a bye, as did Dromsky and Smelyanski. Jones and Valero beat a Murray State team 8-2 to advance.
