October 12, 2014 | Men's Tennis
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Tennessee senior Mikelis Libietis collected singles and doubles titles Sunday to conclude the Wake Forest Fall Invitational.
Libietis won his third career singles title with a 7-6 (4), 6-3 over 27-ranked Jason Tahir of Duke to win the A2 draw. It was his second win of season against Tahir, having defeated the Blue Devil at the ITA All-American Championships.
With four wins this weekend, Libietis improved to 6-2 this season.
Libietis and fellow senior Hunter Reese added a second doubles title to their trophy case in a week. After winning the ITA All-American for a second time Monday, they followed by taking the A1 flight of doubles 8-5 over Wake Forest's Christian Seraphim and Skander Mansouri.
The Vols' top-ranked team is now 8-0 this fall and on a career-best 14-match winning streak dating back to last season.
Reese was also in a singles final but lost to Wake Forest's Max Kan 6-2, 6-4 in the A1 draw.
In consolation singles matches, freshmen Igor Smelyanski and Bartosz Sawicki picked up victories. Smelyanski beat Eduardo Mena of Tennessee Tech 6-3, 6-4, and Sawicki earned a 6-3, 7-5 win against Henrik Munch of Rice.
The Vols are back in action this weekend at the USTA/ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships at Vanderbilt's courts in Nashville, Tenn. A live blog of the action will be at utsports.com.
