Libietis, Reese Advance to Finals at WFU

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Tennessee seniors Mikelis Libietis and Hunter Reese will play for singles and doubles titles Sunday at the Wake Forest Fall Invitational.
Both Vols won two more matches to advance to the singles finals on a rainy Saturday that forced most matches indoors and set the tournament behind schedule.
Reese, the top seed in the A1 draw, beat Duke's Chris Mengel 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 in the quarterfinals. He followed that with a 6-1, 7-6 (5) win against Wake Forest's Christian Seraphim.
Libietis, seeded No. 1 in the A2 draw, won his quarterfinal match via a third-set tiebreaker 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (4) over Louisville's Michael Lippens. The senior from Latvia scored a shorter 6-4, 6-4 victory over Sander Monsouri of Wake Forest in the semifinals.
In the finals, Reese takes on Wake Forest's Max Kan. Libietis will take on Duke's Jason Tahir for a second time in just over a week, having defeated the 27th-ranked Blue Devil 6-4, 6-2 at the ITA All-American Championships.
Libietis and Reese will try to win their second doubles title of the season and their fifth together Sunday in the A1 draw. They won the ITA All-American Championships, their third national title, on Monday and are 7-0 this year.
In consolation matches, freshman Igor Smelyanski and junior Bartosz Sawicki picked up victories. Smelyanski beat Liberty's Egon Samali 6-2, 6-2 in the A2 draw. Sawicki earned a 6-4, 6-7 (8), 6-2 victory over Navy's Aries Wong.
