Tennessee junior outfielder Tory Lewis drove in the game's lone run with a two-out single in the bottom of the seventh that plated pinch runner Whitney Hammond. Lewis, hitting in the No. 9 spot, was 3-for-4 on the day at the plate. The three hits marked a season high and tied a career high. Tennessee senior Raven Chavanne, who entered the day ranked eighth nationally with her .461 season batting average, singled in the first inning to extend her streak of reaching base to 11 games. She finished the game 1-for-4 at the plate and is 2-for-9 in this year's WCWS.

Washington senior pitcher Kaitlin Inglesby fell to 23-8 on the season after giving up nine hits and six walks in 6.2 innings of work. Inglesby recorded three strikeouts on the day, with each of the three ending an inning (two came with the bases loaded).

Washington outfielder Victoria Hayward was thrown out attempting to steal second base in the first inning. It was just the fourth time in 49 career attempts that the junior was caught stealing.

Ten Tennessee batters reached base in the first four innings via hit (five), walk (four) or hit-by-pitch (one), but none scored. The Lady Vols stranded 15 runners in the game.
