ROSEMONT, Ill. - The 2012 NPF Championship Series between the Chicago Bandits and the USSSA Pride was canceled on Sunday due to inclement weather. Three Tennessee softball alums were on the rosters of Chicago and USSSA.
The second game of the best-of-three series was scheduled for 3 p.m. ET on Sunday, but the combination of the rainy weather and scheduling conflicts for players on both teams set to play overseas.
In Saturday's first game, UT alums Monica Aboott and Shannon Doepking shined for Chicago to lead the Bandits to a 2-1 victory. Doepking hammered a two-run homer to center field in the third inning. Abbott out-dueled Cat Osterman in the circle, tossing seven strong frames with six strikeouts and just one run allowed.
Tennessee's 2008 SEC Player of the Year Tonya Callahan was on the USSSA Pride's roster.
