KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Tennessee senior midfielder Amy Harrison was named the TopDrawerSoccer.com Women's College Player of the Week on Monday after she helped lead UT to a pair of impressive wins over Samford and Western Kentucky over the weekend.
Harrison had arguably the best weekend of her Tennessee career, netting four goals to set her new single-season high just two games into the 2012 schedule. She scored two goals in UT's 4-0 season-opening win over Samford on Friday at Regal Stadium and followed that with another two goals in the team's 4-1 victory Sunday at Western Kentucky.
Harrison played 127 minutes over the course of both victories, registering eight points off her four goals. Six of her eight shots on the week were on goal.
Harrison's recognition by TopDrawerSoccer.com mark UT's first national player of the week awards since Julie Eckel was named Soccer America's Women's National Player of the Week on Nov. 2, 2011. Harrison is just the second Lady Vol to be named TopDrawerSoccer.com's Women's College Player of the Week, joining Kyle Rossi, who earned the honors on Oct. 1, 2007.
Tennessee is off to a remarkable start in head coach Brian Pensky's first season leading the team. UT is 2-0 for the fifth time in program history and the Lady Vols' eight goals against Samford and WKU are the most ever in the first two games of a season.
Harrison and the Tennessee soccer team return to Regal Soccer Stadium this week to host the First Tennessee Lady Vol Classic. UT will take on William & Mary on Friday at 8 p.m. and VCU on Sunday at 3 p.m.
