MIYAGI, Japan -- Incoming Tennessee player Hannah Wilkinson is back in the international spotlight, donning the colors for her home country of New Zealand once again in the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup in Japan. On Sunday, Wilkinson and New Zealand defeated Switzerland, 2-1, in its opening match.
Wilkinson started the game and Evie Millynn and Rosie White scored goals for the Kiwis.
Wilkinson represented New Zealand in the 2012 Olympic Games in London, seeing action in against Great Britain, Brazil and the U.S. She totaled 248 minutes of play with two shots and one shot on goal.
Continuing Group A action, New Zealand will take on host country Japan in Miyagi on Wednesday at 6:20 a.m. ET. The Kiwis face Mexico on Aug. 26 at 6:20 a.m. ET. The top two teams from each of the four groups (A, B, C, D) advance to the second stage (knockout tournament).
