Coach George Watts took a few minutes to speak with utsports.com about the upcoming season for the Tennessee men's cross country team. The Vols have been picked to finish in a tie for fifth in the Southeastern Conference and will open their season on Sept. 3 at the Belmont-VU Invitational in Nashville.
The UT men return eight letterwinners from last year's squad, which finished sixth in the SEC and NCAA South Regional. Expected to lead the way is two-time all-league honoree Michael Spooner, a senior. He is joined by an experienced cast, including seniors Peter Sigilai, Steve Fassino and Chris Rapp, and juniors Chris Bodary, Tom Gilmartin and Joe Franklin.
The Vols also welcome six newcomers, most notably freshman Jake Rainey from Rossview High School in Clarksville, Tenn.
