Lady Vols Punch Ticket to Nationals with Runner-Up Finish, Vols Take Fourth at NCAA South Regional

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Tennessee cross country delivered a pair of strong postseason performances Friday morning at John Hunt Park, highlighted by the Lady Vols' automatic qualification to the NCAA Championships with a second-place team finish at the NCAA South Region Championships. The Vols followed with a strong showing of their own, placing fourth in a 27-team men's field.
The Lady Vols surged over the final kilometer to climb into the runner-up position, overtaking No. 15 Alabama and securing their spot at nationals with 101 points. Freshman Mary Nyaboke Ogwoka once again led Tennessee's charge, finishing eighth in 19:35.13 to earn All-Region honors.
Three more Lady Vols joined her inside the top 25 to claim All-Region accolades: senior Andie-Marie Jones (18th, 19:55.30), junior Jaci Sievers (24th, 20:05.42) and graduate student Nia Clatworthy (25th, 20:05.71). Junior Summer Schuster crossed just behind them in 26th at 20:08.20, completing the scoring for Tennessee. Redshirt freshman Tula Fawbush (32nd, 20:13.59) and graduate student Amelia Wills (38th, 20:22.75) added valuable depth to the Lady Vols' top-seven performers.
The Tennessee men placed fourth with 145 points, led by sophomore Zouhair Redouane who earned All-Region status after clocking 29:33.41 for seventh overall in the 202-runner field. Freshman Ty Steorts followed with a clutch All-Region performance of his own, placing 24th in 30:16.92.
Sophomore Ethan Edgeworth (29th, 30:25.55) and freshman Liam Conway (42nd, 30:47.62) provided steady scoring support, while freshman Nelson Mapi Setek (48th, 30:58.17) rounded out the Vols' top five. Redshirt freshman Gavin Genisio placed 143rd in 33:17.01 to close out the lineup.
With Friday's results, the Lady Vols advance automatically to the 2025 NCAA Cross Country Championships on Saturday, Nov. 22, in Columbia, Missouri. The Vols await at-large selections to determine if they will join them as a team at the national meet.
