UT Soccer Set to Host Lady Vol Classic

Tennessee Soccer Game Notes 8-26 
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - For the 11th time in program history the UT soccer team will play host to the First Tennessee Lady Vol Classic, welcoming in #12 Maryland, Richmond and Kennesaw State for this season's event to be held on Aug. 27 and 29 at the Regal Soccer Stadium.
The Big Orange opens its participation on Friday night at 8 p.m. ET versus the nationally-ranked Terrapins before closing its stay in the event on Sunday versus the UR Spiders at 3 p.m. ET. KSU and Richmond will christen the Lady Vol Classic on Friday at 5:30 p.m. ET while #12 Maryland and Kennesaw State take to the pitch in a 12:30 p.m. ET Sunday match-up. Live stats for all four matches will be provided via Gametracker through UTLadyVols.com.
Ticket prices are $7 for reserved seating, $3 for adult general admission and $1 for children ages 12-and-under while parking is free at Regal Soccer Stadium. Every Sunday kids 12-and-under will receive a voucher to obtain a free hot dog and beverage. There will also be a free soccer clinic following UT's finale against Richmond on Sunday.
Tennessee is coming off a dominant, 3-0 season-opening home victory over Western Kentucky last Friday night. UT out-shot the Lady Toppers by a commanding 23-2 total, getting goals from junior forward/midfielder Chelsea Hatcher, who also delivered an assist as part of her first career three-point night, senior forward Anna Fisher and freshman midfielder Caroline Brown. For Brown the tally was the first of her brief career at Rocky Top, while rookie midfielder Tori Bailey registered her initial career assist on Hatcher's season-opening score at 3:33. Sophomore midfielder Kylie Bono (first career assist) and senior defender Grace Cuenin also recorded helpers during the shutout triumph. Redshirt senior net minder Molly Baird was required to make only two saves in recording her eighth career solo shutout between the pipes.
Fresh off a 2009 campaign that brought a 14-6-2 record and a Sweet 16 berth in the NCAA Tournament, #12 Maryland has gotten off to a perfect 2-0 start in 2010 with home wins over Iona (6-0) and two-time defending Big 12 champion Missouri (3-2).
The Terrapins enter this weekend's event in Knoxville having won 13 consecutive matches against non-Atlantic Coast Conference competition. Their high-powered offense is led by M.A.C. Hermann Trophy Watch List inclusion Jazmyne Spencer, who scored 10 goals last year, Ashley Grove, who currently leads the squad with three goals so far in 2010, Sade Ayinde (goal, two assists) and Lydia Hastings (goal, two assists). UMD is forced to break in a new goalkeeper this season for the first time in three years, however, with senior Yewande Baloqun having drawn 166 of 180 available minutes thus far between the pipes.
Picked to finish fifth in the Atlantic-10 Conference in the preseason, Richmond enters this weekend with a 1-1 record following a 1-0 victory at Longwood and a 2-1 home loss to James Madison. A freshman forward has led the way offensively for the Spiders as Becca Wann possesses both UR scores this season, while junior forward Sarah Scheurich has contributed the lone assist.
In goal for the Spiders, juniors Andrea Young (1-0) and Melissa Pacheco (0-1) have each received 90 minutes of action with the former owning the best stats, having allowed no goals while making seven saves. Pacheco has registered four saves while maintaining a 2.00 goals against average.
