Pratt named Lady Vols Asst. golf coach

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - University of Tennessee head women's golf coach Judi Pavon announced the hiring of former UT men's golfer Andrew Pratt as the Lady Vols' new assistant coach Thursday. Pratt replaces Carrie Cole, who left to take the head women's golf coach position at the University of Texas at San Antonio in July.
A 2004 UT graduate, Pratt has spent the past four years playing golf professionally on the NGA Hooter's Tour and the Nationwide Tour.
"I'm thrilled about Andrew joining our staff as assistant coach," Pavon said. "He is a great player and person and will be a tremendous asset to our program. I'm looking forward to Andrew being able to work with the team in every area of their games, but especially their short games. His experience as a UT golfer and as a pro on the Hooters Tour and Nationwide Tour is going to be very valuable in assessing our players' games and helping determine which areas to improve and implementing techniques to make them better.
"As a former Tennessee athlete, he also will be great at recruiting and selling the university. He brings a ton of knowledge and enthusiasm. I'm very excited to work with him."
Pratt had five top-10 finishes, including a runner-up finish at the 2005 Xerox Classic, during his two-year stint on the Nationwide Tour.
The Bartlett, Tenn., native also was the 2004 and 2005 Tennessee State Open Champion, and the 2004 Tennessee State Amateur Champion. He played in four consecutive U.S. Amateur Championships (2000-03) and the 2004 British Amateur Championship.
"I'm very excited and would like to thank Judi and the Lady Vol Athletics Department for giving me this opportunity," Pratt said. "I think my experience playing four years of college golf and nearly four years of professional golf can really help improve this team. Two of my biggest strengths when I played at UT and professionally were my short game and course management, and I really feel my knowledge in those areas can be an asset to this program."
While at UT, Pratt competed at the 2000 and 2003 NCAA Championships, earned All-SEC Second Team honors in 2002 and was a two-time Academic All-American. In 2003, he led the Vols to a fourth-place finish at the SEC Championships by firing a 211 (72-69-70) to place fourth individually. He finished his four-year career with a stroke average of 74.27.
Pratt is married to UT alum Sara Buff Pratt, and they reside in Knoxville. Outside of golf, he enjoys fly-fishing and is active in fundraising for charities.
