Conkic and Smith in Quarterfinals at ITA Southeast Regionals

Tennessee sophomore tennis players John-Patrick Smith and Boris Conkic won twice on Saturday to advance to the quarterfinals of the singles draw at the Wilson/ITA Southeast Regionals in Lexington, Ky.
Both Vols dominated all day as neither player ever lost more than two games in a set.
Smith dropped Joey Burkhardt of Florida, 6-1, 6-2 in the round of 32 to advance. In the round of 16, the 2008 SEC Freshman of the Year dropped 58th-ranked Bram ten Berge of Ole Miss, 6-2, 6-2.
Smith faces Eric Quigley of Kentucky in the quarterfinals Sunday.
Conkic started the day by knocking off Kentucky's Alex Musialek, 6-2, 6-1. In the next round, the Serbia native defeated Lukas Marsoun of Auburn, 6-1, 6-1.
Conkic faces Georgia's Nate Schnugg, ranked 12th in singles, in the quarterfinals.
In doubles, neither UT duo could advance to the finals. Davey Sandgren and Smith, ranked 13th fell to the eighth-ranked duo of Jamie Hunt and Schnugg in the semifinals. Conkic and partner Matteo Fago fell to the Vanderbilt duo of Alex Baker and Alex Zotov in the other semifinal.
