Vols Finish 4th at Louisville Classic

The Tennessee men???s cross country team scored 199 points and finished fourth at the 8K Greater Louisville Classic in Louisville, Ky., on Saturday.
Andrew Press, a Knoxville native and junior transfer from William & Mary, led the Vols with his 15th-place, 24:26.72 finish. Press also led Tennessee at the UT Invitational two weeks ago. Junior Denton Jones, also a Knoxville native, was the next Vol to cross the finish line as he came across in 24:47.28 for 30th place. Freshman Michael Spooner scored third for the Vols as he crossed the finish line in 25:12.35 for 54th place. The Springfield, Va., native has scored in all three races of his collegiate career. Junior Steve Tobin was the next Vol to place as he finished 56th in 25:13.45. Sophomore Chris Rapp rounded out the scoring for Tennessee as he finished in 25:19.68 for 61st place.
Louisville finished first out of 36 teams with 58 points, while Rend Lake finished second with 146. Eastern Kentucky placed third with 169 points and Kentucky rounded out the top five with 210 points.
Sophomore Chris Kane finished sixth on the team and 64th overall with his time of 25:22.82 and was followed by senior Matt Piccarello in 25:43.02. Senior Andrew Dawson completed the course in 25:53.22, while junior Yarrick Kincaid crossed the finish line in 25:59.31. Sophomore Michael Brodsky finished in 26:03.02, while freshmen Steve Fassino and David Clabo stopped the clock at 26:32.24 and 26:38.37, respectively.
The Vols will take next week off before returning to competition Oct. 13 at the 8K ISU Pre-Nationals in Terre Haute, Ind.
