BATON ROUGE, La. ??? The University of Tennessee women???s soccer team had its six-match unbeaten streak snapped on Friday night after suffering a 3-0 defeat at the hands of LSU. The Lady Vols fall to 7-2-1 overall and 2-1-0 in SEC play.

???Tonight was a disappointing loss, obviously but all the credit goes to LSU,??? UT Head Coach Angela Kelly said. ???They were very disciplined on their attack. They were efficient and made few unforced errors. Tonight is just a credit to them and their ability. They scored three great goals.???

LSU got the first and only goal it would need in the 21st minute when sophomore forward Michelle Makasini???s free kick from 30 yards out curled into the upper left hand corner of the goal, glancing off the hands of a diving junior goalkeeper Jaimel Johnson. The goal would be the first of two on the night for Makasini.

The first half saw the Tigers control possession, taking nine shots to Tennessee???s four. Junior forward Kylee Rossi and sophomore midfielder Mick Imgram accounted for all of the Lady Vols??? attempts, notching two apiece. Imgram had the Big Orange???s best opportunity of the half after intercepting an LSU pass, taking a shot from 30 yards and forcing Tigers keeper Valerie Vogler to make her only save of the half.

After having trouble getting an offensive rhythm going in the first half, Head Coach Angela Kelly brought in three forwards to start the second half, calling on redshirt freshman Devon Swaim to join Rossi and senior forward Emily Redberg up top. The tactic led to two early opportunities for UT, including a one-on-one with Vogler by Redberg that saw the LSU keeper layout for the save.

???We had opportunities to put the ball away and we didn???t take advantage of those opportunities,??? Kelly said. ???It was a test of our power and our will.???

Though the Lady Vols had several opportunities to score in the second half, they couldn???t seem to find the back of the net. Vogler came up big, making two saves in the final 45 minutes, while facing 10 shots from UT in the match. Imgram led the Orange and White with five shots, putting two on goal.

The Tigers??? second goal came off the foot of freshman midfielder Taryne Boudreau. After receiving a short corner, Boudreau chipped a ball into the box, tucking it into the upper left corner of the goal.

LSU put the game away with a third goal, coming from Makasini from 30 yards out on the right hand side of the box. Makasini???s shot lofted into the back of the net, just out of reach of Johnson.

The win is the first in program history for a Tigers team over a top 10 team and marks the first time the Lady Vols have allowed three goals this season. Johnson made two saves on the night, facing 19 total shots.

???We???ll need to correct a lot of things tomorrow and come ready to play against a very hungry Arkansas team on Sunday,??? Kelly said.
