KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - University of Tennessee standout golfer Marci Turner has been honored for her outstanding campaign, as she has been selected as a Second-Team National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) All-American. Turner also nabbed a spot on the All-American Scholar Team.
It marks the second straight season that she has been selected to the NGCA All-American Scholar Team, while it is the initial time Turner has been distinguished for her play on the links by the national organization.
"Marci had a very special year. Being named Second Team All-American and named to the All-American scholar team is quite an accomplishment," Lady Vol head coach Judi Pavon. "I'm very proud of her and am fortunate to be her coach. I'm looking forward to seeing what her future holds."
Turner, who led the team with a blistering scoring average of 73.5, won three tournaments on the season. At each of those tournaments, the Cougar Classic, Dr. Donnis Thompson and NCAA East Regional, the Big Orange topped the field. She was selected as the National Player of the Week by Golfweek Magazine on three occasions, most recently following her victory at the regional.
The Tompkinsville, Ky., native posted 13 rounds of par or better, the second most in a campaign by an orange-clad player. She established the school record for lowest 18-hole total, (64) tied for best 54-hole score (209) in UT history and was named a First Team All-Southeastern Conference selection. Overall, she earned six top-10 showings in 11 events. In addition to the three victories, Turner brought home second-place results at the Mercedes-Benz Women's Collegiate and the SEC Championships. She also snared a tie for fourth at the Auburn Derby.
Turner has taken care of business in the classroom, as well, as evidenced by maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.89 in turf grass sciences. She is also a two-time member of the Lady Vol Academic Honor Roll.
